Australia

The tour

Our plan is to travel for 10 months from March 2024 until January 2025. During that time, we'll be taking in parts of Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa and finally, back to Australia, home after more than ten years living in Hong Kong.

The difficulty in planning a trip like this is not just where to go, it's how long to spend in each location. We know where we want to start, India and we know where we'll be ending; Sydney, January 2025.

Since we started planning, the itinerary has changed and will no doubt, keep changing; if there's one lesson everyone must learn on a travel adventure, it's to be flexible.

Highlights
  • Explore Rottnest Island
  • Savour the delights of Margaret River
  • Swim the turquoise lagoons of Ningaloo Reef
  • Visit the wild west township of Kalgoorlie
  • Cross the Nullabor
  • Tour the Barossa Valley
  • Arrive home to Sydney

Tour Plan

Expand All
Perth

We arrive in Perth after an epic nine week odyssey in Africa. This is the first time our family has visited Western Australia and like most of our time on FGY, this leg will serve simply as a taster. While there, we'll spend some time exploring down town and surrounds as well as visit Rottnest Island, a must see excursion.

Margaret River

We'll then make our way south to Margaret River to savour the wine and food of this magical part of the world. Whale watching will likely be on the itinerary as well as hiking this magnificent part of the Australian coastline.

Ningaloo Reef

A trip to WA wouldn't be complete without a visit to Ningaloo Reef. This World Heritage Site is located in the north west coastal region of WA and is home to all sorts of exotic marine life including three of the world's seven species of marine turtle.

Kalgoorlie

Kalgoorlie marks the first stop on our scenic trip back home to Sydney aboard the famous Indian Pacific train. This remote, wild west township has long been on our bucket list and we can't wait to see it.

Adelaide

After crossing the mighty Nullabor, we then arrive in Adelaide. We won't have long so we'll have to decide whether we tour the city or head out to the vines. My money is on the Barossa.

Sydney

Ten months of travel will finally end in our home town of Sydney in January, 2025. Hopefully, this once in a lifetime adventure ends with all limbs and luggage intact. Hard to predict how each of us will feel by then; relieved it's over or sad that it has to end. Either way, we will return having seen more of the world grateful for the opportunity.
