Asia

The tour

Our plan is to travel for 10 months from March 2024 until January 2025. During that time, we'll be taking in parts of Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa and finally back to Australia, home after more than ten years living in Hong Kong.

The difficulty in planning a trip like this is not just where to go, it's how long to spend in each location. We know where we want to start, India and we know where we'll be ending; Sydney, January 2025.

Since we started planning, the itinerary has changed and will no doubt, keep changing; if there's one lesson everyone must learn on any travel adventure, it's to be flexible.

Highlights

India

Our first stop on FGY is the state of Goa in western India. A former Portuguese colony, there's a lot of European influence still here. Famous for its beaches and wildlife sanctuaries, we'll be visiting the famous Dudhsagar Falls and Grand Island Spice Plantation, while taking in some snorkeling, white water rafting and maybe even a hot air balloon ride. Plus, we'll be savouring the seafood delights of the region as well as learning how to cook the eponymous Goan Fish Curry.

We then continue our trip in India with a few days in Varanasi to see life by the shores of the famous Ganges River before heading to Mumbai where we'll board a train to explore among other places, India's Golden Triangle. This seven night journey takes in many of India's most well known cities including Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra and Sawai Madhopur.

Nepal

We arrive in the capital, Kathmandu where we'll visit UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites: Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Swoyambunath Stupa.

Then it's a 10 day trek taking in stoned staircases, and pass beautiful rhododendron forest, and waterfalls to get to a series of mountain peaks in the Annapurna Range. On the way back, we'll also be enjoying some white water rafting and a couple of days exploring Chitwan National Park, Asia's most well-preserved wildlife habitat.

If there's time, we'll visit Everest Base Camp. This is the ultimate bucket-list adventure; a chopper up, just in time for breakfast, before whizzing back to Kathmandu. It's certainly a less-aerobic way of beginning the ascent to Everest and let's face it, probably all our bodies will be able to handle.

Sri Lanka

This is our first time to Sri Lanka and we wish we could see more of the country on this trip but we'll only have time for a day or so in Colombo before making our way to Galle. That's where our first volunteer project begins, teaching English. After our volunteer week, we'll take in the sites of Galle and relax in the beauty of this historic port city.
